How Our Events Work

BookPeople is proud to host over 300 events every year. Our events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise stated.

To get a book signed at one of our events, a copy of the event book must be purchased from BookPeople. By purchasing a book from BookPeople, you are not only supporting a local, independent business, but you are also showing publishers that they should continue sending authors to BookPeople. Think of it this way: you wouldn't bring your own beer to a bar, would you?

For events where we anticipate large crowds, wristbands may be required in order to join the signing line. Occasionally we may also ticket events. In both cases, information as to when wristbands/tickets are available will be found on that event's specific page on our website.

Austin Kleon – Newspaper Blackout

  • Adult Event
04/13/2010 7:00 pm

Poet, cartoonist, blogger, and Austin resident Austin Kleon has
discovered a new way to read between the lines. Armed with a daily newspaper
and a permanent marker, he constructs through deconstruction—eliminating the
words he doesn't need to create a new art form: Newspaper Blackout poetry.
Highly original, Kleon's verse ranges from provocative to lighthearted, and
from moving to hysterically funny, and undoubtedly entertaining. We'll be
learning how to create our own blackout poems, tonight at 7PM.
