Dave Eggers

  • Adult Event
Wed, 03/03/2010 - 7:30pm

BookPeople loves Dave Eggers! Not only has he written and edited
some amazing books, but he is the founder and editor of McSweeney’s
publishing house. He also started 826 Valencia, a non-profit writing and
tutoring center for kids that has been adopted across the country. Eggers
will be at BookPeople tonight to talk about and read from his latest books,
The Wild Things and Zeitoun. The Wild Things is based on Maurice Sendak’s
Where the Wild Things Are, and Eggers also wrote the screenplay for the
recent movie. Zeitoun is the true story of Abdulrahman Zeitoun in the
aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Kicking off the event today will be Austin
resident (and former BookPerson) Bill Cotter reading from his recently
published McSweeney’s book Fever Chart. A jam-packed event full of great
books!

Wristbands for the signing line will go out starting at 4PM. To get
a wristband, you must have a copy of Zeitoun or The Wild Things purchased
from BookPeople.

Dave Eggers's latest book,

Submitted by Marcossp on Thu, 06/03/2010 - 10:28pm.

Dave Eggers's latest book, Zeitoun, patiently unravels the harrowing tale of how Kathy Zeitoun, a Louisiana native who grew up in a southern Baptist family in Baton Rouge, came to be on the other end of that phone call in Phoenix, where she learned that her husband, who had been missing for two weeks, was still alive, and not, as she'd feared, murdered or drowned in the floodwaters still inundating the city of New Orleans. She had last seen him on 27 August, when she and their four children evacuated the city before the approaching hurricane. Zeitoun insisted on staying behind to look after their various properties. As the children waved to their father, Kathy experienced a sense of déjà vu.I remember when I was involved in many projects (otimização de sites, desentupidora, lampadas, acompanhantes, transportadora, relogio de ponto, ortodontista), and really did not have much time to read this book. But I ended up reading the whole book and found it simply amazing!

I've just finished to read The wild Things and can honestly say to everyone - it is AMAZING! I was like returning back to my childhood with all those fillings. I'm sure it is the perfect masterpiece for adults who are still a bit believe in monsters :) And right now I will make an order for the Fever Chard, suspect it will be also great.
