How Our Events Work

BookPeople is proud to host over 300 events every year. Our events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise stated.

To get a book signed at one of our events, a copy of the event book must be purchased from BookPeople. By purchasing a book from BookPeople, you are not only supporting a local, independent business, but you are also showing publishers that they should continue sending authors to BookPeople. Think of it this way: you wouldn't bring your own beer to a bar, would you?

For events where we anticipate large crowds, wristbands may be required in order to join the signing line. Occasionally we may also ticket events. In both cases, information as to when wristbands/tickets are available will be found on that event's specific page on our website.

David Lipsky was lucky enough to spend time with (now deceased) legendary author David Foster Wallace. For five days during Wallace's promotional tour of Infinite Jest (the novel that made DFW internationally famous) Lipsky traveled with the man, learning fascinating and remarkable things about him.

In David Lipsky’s view, David Foster Wallace was the best young writer in America. Wallace’s pieces for Harper’s
magazine in the ’90s were, according to Lipsky, “like hearing for the
first time the brain voice of everybody I knew: Here was how we all
talked, experienced, thought. It was like smelling the damp in the air,
seeing the first flash from a storm a mile away. You knew something
gigantic was coming.”
