How Our Events Work

BookPeople is proud to host over 300 events every year. Our events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise stated.

To get a book signed at one of our events, a copy of the event book must be purchased from BookPeople. By purchasing a book from BookPeople, you are not only supporting a local, independent business, but you are also showing publishers that they should continue sending authors to BookPeople. Think of it this way: you wouldn't bring your own beer to a bar, would you?

For events where we anticipate large crowds, wristbands may be required in order to join the signing line. Occasionally we may also ticket events. In both cases, information as to when wristbands/tickets are available will be found on that event's specific page on our website.

ERIN MORGENSTERN - The Night Circus

  • Adult Event
10/20/2011 7:00 pm

For one night only,
BookPeople's second floor will transform
into a Night Circus to welcome author
ERIN MORGENSTERN
when she appears to speak & sign her debut novel,
The Night Circus.

(Let Erin Morgenstern's Night Circus Mix set the mood while you read about this event.)

At dusk (6:30pm) on October 20th, the BookPeople Night Circus with open on the store's second floor, featuring a fortune teller, contortionist, candied apples, chocolate mice, spiced cider, black and white popcorn, and other elements recreated from the book.  At sunset (7:30pm), Erin Morgenstern will take the podium to read from the most talked-about book of the season and take audience questions.  Afterwards, she will sign copies.

The Night Circus is easily one of our favorite books of the year. We are eagerly anticipating meeting Erin and sharing this magical, wonderful new novel with readers. This is a book you'll be recommending to your friends - all of them.  Its appeal is wide; teens, book clubs, Harry Potter fans, Twilight fans, fans of love and life and good, original stories told well, all will devour this incredible debut. You can check out our preview of the book on the BookPeople blog.

The Night Circus tells the story of a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus, whose black and white striped canvas tents appear in towns without warning, is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands. Meanwhile, patrons are dazzled by the breathtaking displays of Le Cirque des Rêves.
