Local Author Night - featuring HILDA BAKER, CARMEN MORENO, & PATRICK STONE

  • Adult Event
06/09/2012 7:00 pm

We love our local authors here at BookPeople, and tonight we're pleased to have with us three local Austin writers who will present their work.

HILDA BAKER will present Stand at the Cross Roads: A True Story of an Imperfect Woman, a Future, and a Mission That Would Change Lives Forever. A twisting, turning gripping true-life adventure that will take you along on the trip of a lifetime! In 1996, Hilda Baker travelled into some of the last remaining wilderness in Texas. For years, as her life increasingly spun out of control, she was plagued by a series of painful divorces, financial setbacks, and the struggles of single motherhood. Now, she tells the true story of her quest to turn her life around and find true meaning in her work and personal life.

CARMEN MORENO will present Journey to the Aisle...A Story of Cultural Expectations. Journey to the Aisle shares a life experience growing up in the barrio in south Texas where Spanish and Mexican cultural influences and traditions, being the norm, presented obstacles and conflicts while experiencing immersion into educational environments. Growing up in a family with ten siblings, the author shares stories about learning how to survive daily in a male-dominant Spanish speaking home environment where gender roles were defined through unwritten rules. She relates personal struggles and conflicts encountered as she journeys through the process of deciding to make a commitment to marrying.

PATRICK STONE will present Bubble Gum Badge. This book provides vital clinical trial public information. We all have a
story to tell and a perspective of the global health care policies. This
book explains patient safety and efficient & effective health care in
clinical trials. As a collective team we can achieve every goal beyond set
expectations.

How Our Events Work

BookPeople is proud to host over 300 events every year. Our events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise stated.

To get a book signed at one of our events, a copy of the event book must be purchased from BookPeople. By purchasing a book from BookPeople, you are not only supporting a local, independent business, but you are also showing publishers that they should continue sending authors to BookPeople. Think of it this way: you wouldn't bring your own beer to a bar, would you?

For events where we anticipate large crowds, wristbands may be required in order to join the signing line. Occasionally we may also ticket events. In both cases, information as to when wristbands/tickets are available will be found on that event's specific page on our website.
